Delve into the vibrant world of gel plate printing. Artist, curator and serial monoprinter, Bobby Hick, newly arrived in Scarborough, will take you through the basics of this great print process and its potential applications. Gel (or Gelli) plates are silicon-based reusable, durable printing plates that allow you to monoprint without a press. Because of their soft surface, they are particularly good at capturing surface texture of objects pressed onto them. We will experiment with colour using oil based relief inks and also acrylic paint, which allow for different effects and with a variety of different natural and man-made materials to create a series of bold and vibrant prints that play with shape and texture.
