Service Description

6 Week course runs from 26th April - 31st May. Weeks 1 & 2 Monoprinting is a printing process which creates a one-off print, hence the term ‘mono’. Aspects of the print, however, can be repeated through the use of stencils and ghost imagery. We will cover the basics of this versatile approach from hand burnishing and simple monochrome reductive methods to the use of stencils, foliage etc. to create more complex and layered images. By the end, you will have several prints completed and ready to take home. Weeks 3 & 4 Drypoint is a process whereby you scratch into the surface of your plate and the resulting mark then holds the ink which is subsequently put under great pressure to release the ink onto your paper. It gives a slightly characteristic ‘fuzzy’ edge, due to the ink sitting in the burr of the engraved line. We will cover basic drypoint techniques combined with à la poupée printing (selective inking in different colours) and Chine Collé (incorporating coloured tissue paper) Week 5 & 6 Collagraphy is a printing process which is open to anyone. Using found materials of various low relief textures - including paint, foil and tile cement - we will explore together the making of a printing plate and the variety of ways that it can be inked to create multiple varied prints. Classes can be extended until 4pm for an extra £10. Booking is essential as places are limited. All materials provided. Taught by Wendy Tate.
