Service Description

Professional artist Richard Burton is delighted to be working in partnership with North Yorks Arts School, Scarborough to deliver a beginners guide to watercolour painting with the Six Stages of Watercolour Landscape course. Richard is an award-winning creative watercolour landscape artist who gains inspiration from the wonderful Yorkshire coast. He has developed a unique style that conveys a sense of mood and atmosphere in his work. Watercolour can be a challenging medium, but Richard’s beginners guide has been designed to enable students of all abilities to develop simple techniques that will unlock their potential to produce colourful and rewarding watercolour landscape paintings. The course is aimed at all levels whether complete beginner or the more accomplished artist. Week 1 Introduces everyone to watercolour with a simple step-by-step watercolour painting. Week 2 This week is aimed at giving an understanding of three-colour mixing to produce greys, the key building block in landscape painting. This is then put into practice as we paint a range of skies using wet-in-wet techniques. Week 3 This week we introduce the importance of tonal sketching and perspective drawing and explore the importance of composition and light and shade. Week 4 This week we learn how to paint trees in the different seasons together with how to capture moving and still water to create dramatic reflections in landscape paintings. Week 5 This week we introduce the importance of colour perspective by producing a step-by-step complete landscape with rolling hills and mountains. Week 6 This final week we aim to bring together all we have learnt and the techniques we have used over the previous weeks to produce a complete landscape painting.
