Service Description
Bring along your sketchbooks, watercolours, inks, pens and pencils and draw and paint in the company of others. Each Friday we'll meet in places around Scarborough and learn to look at things. Buildings, flowers, people. Our goal as artists is to be aware of the world around us more acutely. To pull it apart. To analyse how it hangs together. The rhythm of life. Its shape, colour, texture, tone. Then there's your application. The way you make marks is a world in itself and being in a group means you're likely to pick up tips and techniques that will help your drawings and paintings develop over time. Tuition and feedback is on offer from NYAS tutor and coach Chris Shaw. His approach is a relaxed talking through of ideas for anyone that wants it. It's perhaps some sort of paradox that all this tuning in coincides with a kind of dropping out. Intense focus helps you forget the world of worry. Your concentration on the task at hand does strange things with time. It flies and yet you feel elated and a good sort of tired when done. It's a sort of work out for the brain that connects you with your surroundings in ways you're not used to. Please bring art materials and any easels, chairs and tables you might require. We provide tea, coffee and biscuits.
