Service Description
Join Christine to create a fused glass textured picture, 20 x 15 cm. You do not need to be able to draw to attend. You can select from one of many provided designs, or bring along your own. You will be provided with a clear glass base, cut to size, to which you will add cut glass elements, frit and stringers to build up your image. You will learn which types of fusing glass and embellishments are compatible and then create your designs. You will experience how themes can be translated into glass artwork and how textured images can be built up using different glass elements. You will be encouraged to try some practical experiments and will benefit from the technical information and supervision provided by Christine. Your pieces will be taken away, kiln fired, and returned to the studio, for you to collect. You will be given the choice of receiving your work as a flat panel or as a free-standing piece; examples will be provided. Due to the firing and cooling down processes involved with all glassmaking it is not possible for participants to take work home on the day it is made. Work needs to be fired and allowed to cool slowly in a kiln. What do you need to bring? Just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and a pair of closed-toed shoes (no open-toed footwear). All of your materials and tools, and protective eyewear will be provided. An apron, overall, or an old shirt is recommended, to protect your clothing from potential glass shards. This workshop is suitable for those exploring glass for the first time as well as those with some glass fusing experience.
