Service Description
Decorate your own Christmas lantern with fused glass panels in just one day! This one-day class will introduce you to the basics of glass tack fusing and you'll make your own coloured six-panel lantern. The class begins with a discussion of the concept of glass tack fusing (sometimes called contour fusing), discussing common issues and a review of the materials you'll use. You may like to come up with some basic design ideas, or we can help you on the day. There'll be a wide range of glass frit, glass noodles and other elements for you to create your lantern glass panels from. You'll be creating 6 decorated glass panels to replace the plain glass supplied with the lantern. The glass panels will be fused as a single layer of fusible glass at around 750 deg.C, retaining the texture of the frit and other glass materials you use to make your design. Your lantern will be suitable for use with a tealight or battery-operated nightlight or fairy lights. Tack fusing is fast becoming a popular art form and this class will give you an inspiring introduction to the exciting world of fused glass! NOTE: Due to the firing and cooling down processes involved with all glassmaking it is not possible for participants to take work home on the day it is made. Work needs to be fired and cool slowly in a kiln. The panels will be fitted into the lantern for you and the whole project will be returned to NYAS for you to collect. What do you need to bring? Just bring yourself, your enthusiasm and a pair of closed-toed shoes (no open-toed footwear). All of your materials and tools will be provided. Lunch and refreshments included.
