Join us for this 35mm film photography workshop taking place at NYAS. Be part of the film photography revival and discover new techniques to take your own black and white photographs. Practice and discuss the art of photography and experience the secrets of developing black and white film. At the end of the course you will be able to take home your own set of negatives as well as turn these negatives into digital images ready to print. 10.00am Arrive and Introduction (please arrive ready to start at 10.00am). - Choosing a camera to use (please bring your own 35mm camera if you like, but not necessary). - Loading the film. - Quick chat about exposure and focusing. 11.00am Practical Photography Expedition - Set out as a group to capture some light (please bring appropriate clothing). - Discuss & 'learn by doing'. (This includes looking at exposure, light reading, composition and framing. 12.30pm Lunch - Lunch is provided by NYAS or bring your own. 1.30pm Developing Your Films - Loading the film from camera to the developer tanks (everyone will have their own). - Prepare photographic chemicals. - Develop your film. - Tea Break - Set the negatives to dry as we clear up a little. - Drying, sorting and scanning the negs. - Discuss and review the results. - Scan the negatives to digital: (this can be done later and negatives will be returned to you). 4pm Workshop ends The workshop will be taught by Bob Smith who has a BA in Fine Art & an MA in Archaeology. Bob has worked as a professional photographer for 25+ years. He was also a curator of collections at English Heritage until 2019. All materials, refreshments and lunch provided. Please note this workshop will involve indoor and outdoor activities.
